A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE: So the Journey Continues

Imagine the sensation of slipping into an Issey Miyake garment—a gentle breeze delicately caressing your senses.

Let us immerse ourselves in the captivating world of A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE, where innovation intertwines with emotion, transforming a single piece of fabric into a canvas of endless possibilities.

In 1998, Issey Miyake unveiled A-POC in Paris, a revolutionary system that redefined the fashion landscape. This groundbreaking approach allowed garments to be meticulously crafted from a programmatically designed tube of fabric, embodying Miyake's unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional fashion design.

A garment, once a mere piece of clothing, becomes a romantic ode to fashion—a poetic interplay of threads, a lyrical composition that harmonizes with the curves of your body, accentuating without constraint.

In 2021, the brand evolved, appending "ABLE" to its name, symbolizing an expanded A-POC system. Under the visionary leadership of head designer Yoshiyuki Miyamae, A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE merges Issey Miyake's philosophy with cutting-edge technology, traditional craftsmanship, and artistic creativity. This fusion creates a bridge between different sectors, giving rise to a new series of "ABLE" products.

A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE introduces a dual-category approach: "PROJECTS" and "PRODUCTS," each showcased through captivating installations.

"PROJECTS" symbolize collaborative endeavors spanning various industries, investigating innovative processes and viewpoints in garment creation. Conversely, 'PRODUCTS' represent tangible outcomes — a concrete manifestation of the inventive journey through the production process.

The magical union of music and fashion unfolds under the direction of renowned conductor Michiyoshi Inoue in the TYPE-I MM project — a documentary detailing the creation of clothes with musicians.

TYPE-I offers clothing made from TriporousTM*, a material developed by the Sony Group using rice husks as its main raw material. The innovative aspect lies in the unique black color achieved, impossible through traditional methods. This sustainable and unconventional material, combined with Steam Stretch techniques, defines the contemporary elegance of TYPE-I MM, designed for the movements of a conductor or artist.

The refined ensemble embodies a mesmerizing dialogue as Maestro Inoue directs a 65-piece orchestra, intertwining with the melodies of Toru Takemitsu and Akira Ifukube. Monochromatic stripes form a visual composition reminiscent of a musical score, reflecting the profound dialogue between music and fashion.

Directed and edited by Yu Yamanaka, the intricate process behind this visionary project comes to life on screen. As the cinematic narrative unfolds, the harmonious marriage of music and craftsmanship takes center stage, capturing the essence of the collaboration.

A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE invites us into a realm where fashion transcends the ordinary. With each creation, a new symphony is composed—a harmonious blend of innovation, tradition, and human expression. This is not just fashion; it's a sensory journey—a testament to the enduring spirit of A-POC shaping the future of fashion.

Wearing Issey Miyake is akin to stepping into a dreamscape where time slows down, and every movement is a graceful expression of art.
