Identity Transformation and Ghost spiritualism with Aun Helden

LISTEN HERE TO THE FULL EPISODE

In the latest episode of "Don't Trust People in the Cyber World," we had the extraordinary opportunity to dive into the world of Aun Helden, a Brazilian transdisciplinary artist whose work is nothing short of revolutionary. Aun's art transcends traditional boundaries, weaving together performance, dance, cinema, and photography to create a tapestry that challenges our perceptions of the body and identity. Her innovative approach uses synthetic brushstrokes and fluid movements, sculpting bodies that seem perpetually on the edge of transformation.

Aun's creations are visual operas, rich narratives that blur the line between fiction and reality. They reflect the frictions between the dream-body she imagines and the tangible world around her.

In her interview with us, Aun shared profound insights into her artistic journey and the philosophical underpinnings of her work.

We asked Aun how much she believes the esoteric dimension influences her artistic works. Her response was both captivating and enlightening, telling us that esotericism deeply informs her art, because, though she is attached to materialism- as we can see from her flashes-related works- she also loves mystery. She indeed believes that only in mystery places metamorphosis and transfiguration can happen.

Also, Aun’s innovative ideas about identity often involve distorting and transforming her image through various materials and instruments. We inquired about the role of technology and tools such as AI in her work and she replied that technology is a powerful tool in her quest to both deconstruct and reimagine identity. As a trans and non-binary ally, she is much more interested in the word synthetic than in the concept of “natural”. In fact, she thinks technology help human beings to be nearer to their synthetic essence, letting them to choose how to transform their body into the version that most represents them:“It’s a way of reaching self empowerment, as it helps us question the boundaries between the human, machine, and spirit.”

In her latest work, Aun explores the body as more than a human figure, delving into themes of ghosts and artistically rendered human organs. We asked her about the role of the spiritual and the supernatural in her artistic life and she shared with us the thinking that both spiritual and supernatural are essential to her art. To her, they represent the unseen forces that shape our existence. The ghost figure allowed her to discover herself over the mere concept of human. “We human aro attached to this concept that we don’t allow ourselves to go beyond this word and enter into deeper spiritual things. We artists and dissents bodies have the power to re-create our own spiritual believes.”

Aun Helden's practice is a beacon of experimentation and liberation, challenging conservative ideologies and pushing the boundaries of how we perceive identity and the body. Her work is a testament to the power of art to provoke thought, inspire change, and bridge the gap between the physical and the metaphysical.

Tune in to "Don't Trust People in the Cyber World" to experience the full interview with Aun Helden and immerse yourself in her visionary world.

It's a journey you won't want to miss.
