Our mission is to celebrate the diverse personas within the fashion world, from groundbreaking models to visionary designers. What sets PortrAIts apart is our pioneering co-creation with artificial intelligence, enriched by the distinct lens of Rosario Rex Di Salvo. As both a photographer and AI artist, Rex reimagines classic portrait photography, blending traditional techniques with modern innovation.
In this episode, we focus on Ilyas Rmili. Originating from Morocco and raised in Toulon, South of France, Ilyas navigates between modeling and education, with a keen interest in psychological disorders. His story is a compelling exploration of culture, identity, and passion.
For this project, our subjects brought personal thought, opening a dialogue about their passions and inspirations. Through these conversations and the creative genius of Rex, coupled with AI, we crafted captivating portraits that delve deep into the essence of each individual.
Join us in "portrAIts" as we showcase the stories and talents shaping tomorrow's fashion landscape.
Would you share your name, origin, profession, and, if you follow astrology, your zodiac sign?
My name is Ilyas Rmili. I originate from Morocco, but I was born and raised in the south of France, in Toulon. My profession encompasses both modeling and education, with a specialization in psychological disorders. While I don't follow astrology closely, my zodiac sign is Virgo.
What three keywords best capture your essence, reflecting your aesthetic and mood?
Rather than three individual words, a phrase encapsulates my essence: "Smile at life, and life will smile back at you." Being happy, authentic, and true to myself defines my aesthetic and mood.
How did you get started in modeling, and what was your first big break?
I was scouted on Instagram by a mother agency in London. My first significant opportunity came with a catwalk appearance for @yproject. It was an exhilarating experience, with a fire look that set the tone for my career.
Can you walk us through a typical day in your life during fashion week?
A typical day during Fashion Week starts early with a shower and skincare routine. Then, I head to castings or fittings. If I'm booked for a show, I indulge in Café brioche at the catering, as it's become a daily ritual for artists like me. After a long day of castings and events, I socialize at Paris Fashion Week gatherings with friends. Finally, I head home, knowing that the next day will bring its own set of challenges.
What changes have you observed in the modeling industry since you started your career?
One significant change I've noticed is the increasing representation of Arabic models working for prominent brands. It's heartening to witness this diversification in the industry.
What has been your most memorable photoshoot or show, and why?
My most memorable show wasn't for a high-profile brand like Rick Owens or Comme des Garçons. Instead, it was for my friends' brand, Dare (@dare.officiel). Walking for them was an incredibly fulfilling experience because it was more than just a show—it was a collaboration with my closest friends. The energy and pride I felt during that show were unparalleled.
And now one final question: you are experiencing this shooting during the PFW, what is your relationship with Paris Fashion Week?
I've been a part of Paris Fashion Week for three years now. It's a complex relationship, teetering between love and frustration. While the stress and uncertainty can be overwhelming, I cherish the connections I've made with fellow industry insiders. Paris Fashion Week has evolved into more than just a series of events—it's a platform for forging enduring friendships and professional bonds.
