CultTech Summit 2024: Where Art, Tech, and Innovation Converge to Shape the Future

As RED-EYE steps into the role of media partner for the upcoming CultTech Summit, we’re excited to share a glimpse into what promises to be an intellectually stimulating and forward-thinking event. Set to take place on November 5-6 at Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier, the Summit is poised to bring together over 500 participants for a deep dive into the intersection of art, technology, and business.

Organized by the Vienna-based CultTech Association, known for collaborations with leading institutions like Ars Electronica and the Salzburg Festival, the Summit is a global platform for exploring how technology is shaping the future of culture and creative industries. In a time when cultural evolution is more essential than ever, the Summit offers a space to engage with these transformations, helping foster new ways to connect with and understand the role of creativity in modern society.

The CultTech Summit is an inclusive community space where some of the brightest minds in art, tech, and business will converge to discuss the future of culture. With a lineup of 40 speakers, including key figures like Gerfried Stocker (CEO of Ars Electronica), Hazel Savage (VP of Music Intelligence at SoundCloud), and Lucia Ronchetti (Artistic Director of Biennale Musica), the Summit offers a chance to hear from leaders shaping the future of their fields.

The event's program touches on critical questions: How can technology unlock new possibilities in culture? What role will AI play in reshaping our creative processes? And how can we ensure that the fusion of tech and art brings about positive social change? These are the kinds of inquiries driving the Summit’s discussions and workshops.

One particularly compelling session is “From Graphene to Gallery: Exploring the Harmony Between Scientific Discovery and Artistic Creativity,” where Nobel Prize winner Sir Kostya Novoselov and artist Kate Daudy will explore how art and science can inspire each other in unexpected ways. Sessions like this offer a thought-provoking view of how interconnected the realms of creativity and discovery truly are.

The Summit’s broad program includes over 30 presentations, panel discussions, artist talks, and workshops, covering a wide spectrum of topics. From debates on the potential of AI in culture to case studies on the commercialization of creativity, the event promises to challenge conventional thinking and provide practical insights.

For those interested in the financial side of the cultural sector, “Monetizing Creativity: The Role of Finance in Arts & Culture” will feature Adriano Picinati di Torcello of Deloitte, who will share his experiences in bridging the gap between art and finance. His session is expected to shed light on how the cultural sector can leverage financial structures to create more sustainable models.

Meanwhile, “Creativity Reimagined: The Role of AI in Modern Society” will tackle one of the most pressing issues of our time—the influence of AI on both society and the creative world. This discussion will not only address the potential of AI in reshaping cultural experiences but also highlight the challenges and ethical considerations we face as we move forward.

The Summit is definetely about discussions and debates as well as an immersive experience designed to showcase the potential of technology in culture. Attendees can expect contemporary performances and exhibitions that blend art with tech. One such highlight is the performance “Mahamaya Electronic Devices,” a live show addressing major societal issues through electronic music, computer graphics, and thought-provoking text delivered by actors. This performance serves as a reflection on the complex questions we face in today’s fast-paced, tech-driven world.

In addition, the joint award from CultTech Association and Ars Electronica for Social Impact Projects in Culture and Technology will shine a light on forward-thinking startups making a difference in this space. Last year’s winner, Art Meets, a South African startup connecting visual arts ecosystems, demonstrated the power of technology to bring about real social change—setting the tone for this year’s hopefuls.

The CultTech x Ars Electronica Award celebrates innovative projects

At the heart of the CultTech Summit is the idea that technology and culture are not separate spheres, but are deeply intertwined. The event offers a chance to rethink the future of creativity and its place in society. As Sergiu Ardelean, co-founder of Artivive and one of the Summit’s key figures, puts it, the aim is to push boundaries and foster a better understanding of how art, tech, and business can work together to create meaningful, impactful change.

For those looking to stay ahead of the curve and explore how art and technology can shape the future, the CultTech Summit offers a unique opportunity. Whether you’re deeply embedded in the cultural sector or simply curious about its next steps, the event’s program promises to deliver insight, inspiration, and actionable ideas.
