Inside HYDRASITE: HYDRA’s Immersive Paris Installation, AI Film and Live Performance

At Espace Parallèle on April 8, HYDRASITE unfolded as a spatial installation, screening and live activation that resisted any fixed form. Conceived by artist, director and researcher, HYDRA (Anna Gloria Flores), the work operated as a fluid system where bodies, media and architecture fed into one another in real time.

Structured through a series of interdependent layers, the activation centred on an AI film developed in collaboration with Pei Shan Lee. Drawing on more than a decade of HYDRA’s research, the film did not present archival material directly but translated it into a mediated surface, where rituals and spatial methodologies were reframed for a contemporary audience. It functioned less as documentation and more as an interface between embodied practice and image.

This cinematic layer was anchored by a live one to one performance. Violinist ASIA performed for Diane Pernet, creating an intimate exchange that shaped the emotional and temporal rhythm of the space. Around them, the audience activated what HYDRA describes as a system of perceptual portals, observing not only the performance but the act of its translation into image.

The environment extended into material form through HYDRA Sartorial Rubber, with wearable artefacts and spatial design reinforcing the dialogue between body and structure. A fixed camera positioned as an external eye to contiuosly record and frame the activation added another layer of mediation, framing the immaginary stage as a set within a set and folding the live moment back into the evolving archive.

Earlier in the day, HYDRALAB opened the process to the public through a press viewing and casting session, collapsing rehearsal and presentation into one continuous timeline. By evening, the space shifted into a collective rhythm, closing with a vinyl set by Sou Varine of Discogs Diaries.

Hosted by PPS as part of a wider Paris residency, HYDRASITE marks the first public activation of the HYDRA Future Archive, an evolving body of spatial interventions and performative environments.
