ROMANTICA 2024: Forging the Future of Fashion in Rome

On the 13th and 14th of April 2024, the Chamber of Commerce of Rome is set to host the first edition of "ROMANTICA" in the Sala del Tempio di Vibia Sabina e Adriano. This groundbreaking event seeks to reinvigorate Rome's image as a beacon of contemporary fashion study and research. Launched by the Chamber of Commerce of Rome, "ROMANTICA" aims to forge a new narrative for fashion in Rome, highlighting the city's enduring symbol of creativity that is constantly evolving and reinventing itself.

Set in an extraordinary venue, the event represents a novel approach to engagement and presentation, embodying an evolution in the utilization of Rome's rich artistic and historical heritage as a collaborative space for academic inquiry. This aligns with the Chamber's strategic focus on youth, the future, and a global perspective, which is evident in other well-established initiatives.

The primary goal of "ROMANTICA" is to promote Rome as a leading laboratory for discussions on technology and sustainability within the realm of contemporary creativity, encouraging a collaborative approach that transcends traditional fashion capitals. The event's dynamic blend of exhibitions, performances, workshops, and talks invites participation from enthusiasts, locals, and tourists alike.

This edition's theme delves into the intricate relationship between Artisanal Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence, offering a multifaceted exploration of a highly pertinent subject. For the first time, 11 fashion academies from Rome will collectively showcase their talents and knowledge, positioning the city as an extraordinary launchpad into the future of fashion. Participants will have the opportunity to present their work on AI and artisanal intelligence, simulating a departure platform, complete with background images of their institutions.

A highlight of "ROMANTICA" will be the "Scientific Laboratory of the Station," a central workspace where students from all schools will collaborate, employing both traditional and digital design techniques. This inclusive project aims to foster a spirit of collaboration and innovation, featuring participants from the social tailoring school, Coloriage, which promotes creative encounters between designers and artisans from diverse backgrounds.

Lorenzo Tagliavanti, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Rome, emphasizes the institution's dedication to sustainability, innovation, and supporting young talent. Over the years, the Chamber has actively supported the fashion sector, especially emerging talents who have gone on to achieve national and international acclaim. "ROMANTICA" serves as a testament to the Chamber's ongoing commitment to a sector that significantly contributes to the region's and country's GDP.

The event will also feature a series of talks, including a notable session on Saturday at 18:00, titled "La narrazione e la comunicazione dei nuovi creativi." This discussion will feature Alessio de Navasques, curator and lecturer, in conversation with journalist and ASVOFF founder Diane Pernet, and RED-EYE's Creative Director, Gloria Maria Cappelletti, offering insights into the storytelling and communication strategies of new creatives.

Additionally, "ROMANTICA" will host workshops by MENSURA, the National Academy of Tailors, and PERFUMEDIA, demonstrating the transformation of materials and showcasing traditional and contemporary techniques. The event will conclude with a workshop on digital archiving in fashion, highlighting the collaborative D_ARCHIVE project, which aims to create a bridge between cultural heritage and modern technology in the fashion culture.
